Amazon's drone deliveries are almost here — and the public comment window closes this week. Amazon plans to launch Prime Air drone delivery out of its Papillion fulfillment center by the end of summer, making Omaha its 11th U.S. market pending FAA approval. The service would fly packages under five pounds to customers within about 8 miles of the facility — in as little as two hours, or as fast as 20 minutes for a premium fee — using a dozen autonomous drones and adding 30 new skilled jobs at the site. The FAA posted its draft environmental assessment for public review on June 23, and the 30-day comment period closes Wednesday, July 22 at 5 p.m. Central (comments can be emailed to [email protected]). Papio Fun Park is closing for good — and becoming a private event venue. After decades as a family-run entertainment center at 210 E. Lincoln St., Papio Fun Park has been sold and will be transformed into the second location of Omaha Sports & Games Company, a private event venue whose flagship sits in the Elkhorn area. The new space is expected to open in March 2027.
A new bike shop rolled into town. Sarpy County Bicycles celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting through the Sarpy Chamber on Friday, July 17. The community-focused shop serves riders of all ages and skill levels.

City Council meets Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m., as previewed last week, with public hearings on a liquor-license ordinance update (ORD. 2091) allowing temporary license expansions, and the 2026 Annexation No. 1 package covering land near the Highway 370 Industrial Park / Papillion Professional Park area. The meeting is in the Council Chambers at Papillion City Hall, 122 E. 3rd St.; written public comment is accepted ahead of time through the City Clerk.
Sarpy County Board skips its regular session this week. The Board of Commissioners won't hold its usual meeting on July 21 because members are instead sitting for property valuation protest hearings that day at the Sarpy County Courthouse, 1210 Golden Gate Dr. The board's next regular meeting is Tuesday, July 28 at 3 p.m.

Hydrant parties keep rolling. The Papillion Fire Department continues its free Saturday "hydrant party" pop-ups in a different neighborhood each week through the summer.
Twilight Criterium registration is open. Ahead of the August 9 bike races through downtown Papillion, riders of all ages and skill levels can now register through the One Cycling Series.
