It's a quieter week on the news front. Town and Country Animal Rescue's new kennel is $350,000 short of finished, the drone deliveries have settled into their second week without much fanfare, and The Landing shuts down for its annual cleaning. Add a farmers market, a county board meeting, and three nights of live music at SumTur, and there's still plenty to do.

🐾 New from the Papillion Post
Inside Town and Country's new kennel project — and what it still needs to finish. In under eight hours on June 23, the 40-year-old dog kennel at Town and Country Animal Rescue came down. The no-time-limit shelter at 14110 S 84th St is replacing it with a new kennel and adoption center it expects to finish by the end of the year, going from 12 usable kennels to 23, with a full HVAC system, a rebuilt foundation and the rescue's first on-site grooming station. The catch: permitting delays, an unbudgeted fire-truck driveway and an electrical upgrade pushed the project from a $500,000 build to a $1.2 million one, and as of the first week of August it was still $350,000 short. Meanwhile the dogs are living in the barn, and intake hasn't stopped. Executive Director Angela Heim walked us through where it stands and how residents can help.

Readers weighed in on the drones: mostly a novelty, not a nuisance. Last week's issue asked how the Prime Air drones sound and feel from your yard. Of the readers who responded, 11 called them a novelty, 3 hadn't noticed them at all, and 1 called them a nuisance. That's a small, self-selected sample, but it lines up with what we've seen in Papillion's Facebook groups: curiosity is outweighing complaints so far, unlike some other Prime Air markets that have drawn sustained noise pushback this summer. 🏛️ Local Politics & Civic News
No official word yet on last Tuesday's zoning vote. The City Council took up the full rewrite of Chapter 205 (the "Missing Middle" housing ordinance, ORD. 2093) and the Ponderosa Place rezoning package near 72nd and Schram (ORD. 2094) at its August 4 meeting, both previewed in last week's issue. As of this writing, the city hasn't yet posted minutes or a result for either item. We'll report the outcome once it's public. In the meantime, the record will post to the City's Agenda Center, and the Council's next regular meeting, where you can speak during Comments from the Floor on anything else on your mind, is Tuesday, August 18 at 7 p.m.
Sarpy County Board of Commissioners meets Tuesday. The board's regular Tuesday session at the County Courthouse takes up a construction contract for the Lincoln Road sidewalk project, the second phase of a county-wide technology system upgrade, and a new three-year contract with the county employees' union. From the Mayor's August letter: the Papillion Police Department has a School Resource Officer partnership in place with Papillion La Vista Community Schools for the coming year, and the city is reminding residents that signs (yard sale signs, election signs, contractor signs, etc.) aren't allowed in the public right-of-way.
The "Speeding Catches Up With You" enforcement campaign wrapped Sunday, after two weeks of extra patrols citywide.
